The Department of Child Health is a small academic unit led by a Paediatrician with a part-time senior lecturer contract with the Peninsula Medical School.

APAUSE is an acronym for Added Power And Understanding in Sex Education. It is a behaviourally effective programme which has been developed by the department and adopted in a number of districts. The programme is directed by Dr John Tripp while outreach work is managed by a teacher, Mr John Rees. In 2002 it will be delivered by teachers, health professionals and year 12 peer educators to more than 15,000 year 9 pupils in over 100 schools in 12 districts of the UK. There is continuing development work funded by the Teenage Pregnancy Unit and we hope to host Phase 3 of the Europeer project in 2002.
